"One of the features of RSS 2.0 is the ability to add enclosures. You can think of enclosures as the RSS equivalent of attachements in e-mail. Podcasting is the creation of an RSS feed in which each item has an enclosure of an MP3 file. This file is then downloaded and played back by users media player of choice, the result being the equivalent of a syndicated radio show. Early podcasts were mostly music-related, authors creating virtual radio shows bootleg and live music.
